My name is Ward Anders and I am teacher and coach from Winnipeg, Manitoba. I am inspired to become the best at what I do. Educational Philosophy

I believe in constructivism and essentialism. Firstly, I believe students learn best by doing and making connections with their learning. I think that students that connect information and experiences have a better time retaining and applying information. Secondly, I believe students should look to master the core subjects in school. I want to inspire my students to become the best they can be and teach them to become independant life long learners. I want to develop future leaders in this community.

Classroom Management

I believe that good classroom management comes through prevention and preparation. Creating positive relationships, creating engaging and well-prepared lessons, having clear classroom expectations, conducting yourself as a professional, and maintaining clear and concise classroom routines will minimize classroom management issues.

Assessment

My goal as a educator is to get the most of my students and I believe assessment has to be two-way communication between the students and the teacher. The objective is to clarify what students should know before they graduate and what they should be able to do. I think having different assessments makes the results more accurate.

I think it is important to have different forms of assessment and not solely teaching assessment. I use peer- evaluation, self-evaluation, self-reflection and this includes applying meta-cognition to the results of the assessment.

Differentiation Strategies

As a basketball coach I am constantly differentiating my instruction to suit the needs of my players. In the classroom, it will be no different. I will use different strategies and activities to stimulate all learning styles and make sure the classroom is inclusive for all. I think being adaptable and flexible will ultimately get students engaged as fully as possible in the learning environment.

Student Teaching

I had the pleasure to teach at Gordon Bell High School in Winnipeg School Division and Vincent Massey High School in Pembina Trails School Division
